Time difference in Tahiti
Tahiti is 11 hours behind France in winter, and 12 hours behind in summer. When it is 12 noon in Paris, it is 1 am in Tahiti in winter, and midnight in summer.
| Time in Paris | Time in Tahiti (winter) | Time in Tahiti (summer) |
|---|---|---|
| 8 am | 9 pm (previous day) | 8 pm (previous day) |
| 12 pm (noon) | 1 am | 12 am (midnight) |
| 6 pm | 7 am | 6 am |
| 10 pm | 11 am | 10 am |
Tahiti never changes its time. It is France that switches to summer time on the last Sunday in March and back to winter time on the last Sunday in October. That is why the time difference increases from 11 to 12 hours during the summer. Papeete, the capital, is on the island of Tahiti: the time there is therefore the same.

Timetables in Tahiti
In Tahiti, as in Bora Bora, the opening hours of shops and businesses are broadly the same as in mainland France (grocery shops and general food shops are even often open on Sunday mornings). Tourist information centres, banks and government offices are open from 8.30 am to 4.30 pm (local time), closing earlier on Fridays. On weekdays, shops open from 7.30 am and close between 5 pm and 6 pm. The post office is open on Saturdays and public holidays from 8 am to 10 am (local time).
And what about the rest of Polynesia?
Bora Bora, Raiatea, Huahine and Rangiroa are in the same time zone as Tahiti. Only the Marquesas Islands, such as Hiva Oa and Nuku Hiva, are 30 minutes ahead of Tahiti: the time difference with France is 10.30 hours in winter and 11.30 hours in summer.
